What a wa.me link does
A WhatsApp link is a normal web address that opens a chat with one specific phone number. Anyone who taps it lands in WhatsApp with your number already selected, so they do not need to save your contact first. If you add a message, it appears in the text box ready to send.
The official format is https://wa.me/ followed by the phone number in international format. With a message it looks like https://wa.me/34612345678?text=Hello. The generator above builds it for you and handles the text encoding.
How to write the phone number
WhatsApp links need the full international number as digits only. The rules are short:
- Start with the country code, for example 34 for Spain or 1 for the United States.
- Do not add a plus sign, spaces, dashes or brackets.
- Drop the leading 0 of the local number. In the United Kingdom, 07700 900123 becomes 447700900123.
- The full number, country code included, has at most 15 digits.

Argentine mobile numbers include a 9 after the country code and never include the 15 that people dial locally. The numbers above are examples, not real lines.
Common mistakes that break the link
- Typing the plus sign or leaving spaces in the number.
- Forgetting the country code, so WhatsApp cannot find the account.
- Keeping the leading 0 from the local format.
- Pasting a message with accents or emojis into a link built by hand without encoding it. This tool encodes it for you.
- Using a number that is not registered on WhatsApp. The link will open but the chat will show an error.

Yes. A wa.me link has the same format for WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business. The only difference is the profile people see when the chat opens.
Why does my link say the phone number is invalid?
The usual causes are a plus sign or spaces in the number, a missing country code, a leading 0, or a number that is not registered on WhatsApp. Check the rules above and test the link with the Test in WhatsApp button.
How long can the pre-filled message be?
Keep it short, one or two sentences. Very long messages make the link long and some apps cut them off.
Does the QR code expire?
No. The QR code stores the link itself, so it works for as long as the phone number stays active on WhatsApp.
